The Morning Routine That Helped Me Heal

Jul 14, 2025

When my world fell apart—divorce, heartbreak, loss—I had two choices: drown in despair or build a new rhythm for my life. I chose the second. And it started with my mornings.

Mornings became my anchor in the storm. They were the only time I felt like I could breathe. Before the texts, the to-do lists, or the world’s expectations—I had a sacred hour to check in with me. I didn’t know it then, but creating a morning routine would be one of the most healing things I ever did for myself.

Why a Morning Routine Matters After Heartbreak

When your life has been shattered, your nervous system is in overdrive. A healthy morning routine grounds you. It reminds your body and mind: You’re safe. You’re loved. You have purpose again.

I needed that reminder daily—sometimes hourly.

What My Morning Routine Looks Like

Here’s what I started doing every morning that helped me go from broken to becoming bold again:

1. Wake Up Slowly with Grace

No phone. No scrolling. Just me, God, and the morning light.

2. Prayer + Devotional Word (Joyce Meyer is my go-to)

I ask God: “What do You want me to know today?”
He always answers. Some mornings it’s a whisper. Others, a fire.

3. High Five Journaling

I write:

  • How I feel today

  • Why I feel that way

  • 5 things I love about myself

  • 5 things I’m grateful for

  • One small step I can take to move forward

This routine literally rewired my brain. It helped me stop spiraling in sadness and start speaking life again.

4. Light Movement or Stretching

Even a 5-minute stretch helped me feel alive again. Healing lives in the body, not just the mind.

5. Cup of Coffee or Tea + Quiet Time

It’s not just the caffeine—it’s the ritual of caring for myself. I sip, breathe, and remind myself that I matter.

The Results

This simple rhythm gave me my power back. It reminded me that I was more than my heartbreak—I was a woman with vision, grit, and softness. My morning routine didn’t change the pain overnight… but it gave me a way through it. A way to rise.

And that’s what healing is—rising again, one sacred moment at a time.

Your Turn

If you’re rebuilding after a breakup or heartbreak, start here:

  • Create a morning playlist that calms or energizes you

  • Choose a journal and write 5 things you love about yourself daily

  • Pick one devotional to sit with each morning (Joyce Meyer, Sarah Jakes Roberts, or the Bible)

Start small. Show up daily. And watch yourself come back to life. Tell me in the comments: What’s one thing in your morning routine that helps you feel grounded?
